The International Art of Living Foundation
The International Art of Living Foundation (IAOLF) is a volunteer-based, charitable NGO dedicated to uplifting humanity and creating a violence-free, stress-free world. Guided by the principle that global peace begins with peaceful individuals, the Foundation works to support peace at the level of the individual.
Started in 1981 by H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Foundation’s initiatives have bene¬fited people from diverse walks of life in over 150 countries. Its activities are broadly classified as:
- Educational – stress management courses, awareness campaigns
- Humanitarian – disaster relief, conflict management, socio-economic development
The Foundation partners with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders including governments, faith-based organizations, schools, corporations, prisons and women’s groups. Its key partner is the International Association for Human Values. The Foundation maintains special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN), and regularly collaborates with the UN to support the Millennium Development Goals.
The Art of Living is about making life a celebration. It is an expression of spiritual values - those attributes and qualities which are the very heart of humanity, such as compassion, non-violence, enthusiasm, and a deep caring for all life and the planet.
"When attention is given to the spiritual aspect of life, it brings a sense of belonging and caring for the whole of humanity. It breaks down the narrow boundaries of caste, creed, religion and nationality, and gives an awareness of life present everywhere. It is only through this uplifting of consciousness that wars can be eliminated and human rights restored in the world today."
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
